A family story
1920 Our company was founded by Adrien Valette at St-Clair, a small village near Gourdon (Lot), located between Périgord and Quercy.
1945 René Valette, his son, takes over and develops the activity. He creates the firts canning facility in St-Clair.
1975 The first Valette shop is opened at St-Clair [30 years after: the network is formed of more or less 50 retail outlets].
1984 Jacques, Adrien Valette's grandson, becomes chairman of the company. From that moment, Valette Foie Gras has begun to be notorious outside its original region : tourists visiting the Périgord and Quercy region buy Valette products in the first shops (at Gourdon, Sarlat and Rocamadour), during gastronomical fairs (in Paris, Nice, ...) or by mail order trading. Besides, the Valette company extends its activity toward wholesalers and retailers, in France and abroad : Valette Foie Gras attends the SIAL for the fist time in 1984 and has never missed an edition ever since. (SIAL: one of the most important trade fair in the food industry)
1991 A new production facility meeting European safety and hygiene standards is built in St Clair.
1994 The Sales and Logistics Departements are transferred to Gourdon, in a 17 000 m2 building, in order to ensure the best service to our customers.
1995 The first Shop-Restaurant "Le Bistrot Quercynois" opens in Gourdon. Valette près de chez vous : 45 boutiques en France Les Restaurants Gastronomiques Take-over of the company "La Truffe Périgourdine" at Bergerac (24), specialised in meat cutting and in fresh duck products sale.
1996 The supply of fattened ducks is controlled thanks to the signature of partnership agreements with duck stockbreeders in the Dordogne (Périgord region) and a fattened duck-slicing facility in Bergerac, in Périgord.
1998 The first Valette shop opens in Paris, in the 14th arrondissement (avenue du Général Leclerc).
1999 Valette Foie Gras benefits the "IGP Canards à Foie gras du Sud-Ouest / Périgord" (Identification Géographique Protégée or Certified Geographical Identification) for its meat cutting centre and its production site at Bergerac [nowadays, the Valette group processes and sells 1 200 000 IGP Périgord ducks].
2000 Valette group acquires "Les Délices de la Bouriane" factory situated next to Gourdon. A Valette shop opens in Cahors.
2001 Implementation of a new ERP software (SAP).
2002 A new Valette shop opens in Paris, in the 15th arrondissement. First Valette partner or franchized shops outside the South-West of France, in Nancy, Orléans, La Rochelle, Amiens and Bourges.
2003 New Valette shops in Paris (8th, 14th and 16th arrondissements).
2004 New shops in Toulouse, Périgueux, Montargis, Olivet, Piégut-Pluviers and Le Puy en Velay. Starting of enlargement works of the production site at St-Clair, in order to cope with the rapid growth of the company.
2005 Valette group obtains 3 new medals at the Agricultural Open Competition in Paris, raising the number of medals of the company to 23 for 20 years. New shop openings at Paris 20e, Tours, Moulins, Arras, Nantes, Clermont-Ferrand, Lyon 6e, Angers, Calais, Créteil-Village, Nice and Annecy. The enlargement works of the St-Clair site are finished.
